With a career spanning nearly four decades, Mircea Roman is an internationally well known artist, He won many prizes inter alia the Grand Prize of Osaka Triennial (1992) and the Award of the Fine Artists Union of Romania for Sculpture (2017). Growing up in the MaramureČ™ region in northern Romania, he lived and worked for many years in London before he relocated to Bucharest in 2008. His works centre around large scale wooden sculptures, materializing dichotomies such as the conception of wholes and its parts, the antagonism of fragmentation and completion, and the contradiction between exteriority and integrity.
